Golden Globe Style HITS & MISSES

GG recap

Some gorgeous gowns made their way down the Golden GLobes red carpet last night! We were pleasantly surprised in many cases and really confused on others. Take a peek at our favorite and our not-so-favorite looks!

FELICITY JONES – We thought that The Theory of Everything actress was killing it in this blue-green gown by Christian Dior. The sheer sides of the bodice were an unexpected touch.

KATE HUDSON – Kate always looks amazing on the red carpet but our jaws hit the floor when we spotted her in this super sexy, white Versace gown. She was perfect!

KATE MARA – There we so many red gowns on the red carpet last night but we have to give it to the House of Cards actress for her belted Miu Miu gown. The small ruffles were our favorite part!

DAKOTA JOHNSON – The 50 Shades of Grey actress went from being last year’s Miss Golden Globes to being this year’s golden girl…in silver! We couldn’t get enough of her in her sparkly Chanel gown.

JULIA GOLDANI TELLES – We’re starting a new love affair with this 19 year old beauty in blue! Julie Goldani Telles wowed us in her bright blue Carmen Marc Valvo gown. Did you love it too?

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY – Keira has a baby on board so she took a risk with this Chanel butterfly-accented frock but we couldn’t get on board with it.

KERRY WASHINGTON – When we say that we LOVE this gorgeous Scandal actress we mean it, but we were NOT loving her Mary Katrantzou gown last night. And what was with the black and red heels?

JULIANNA MARGULIES – This former Golden Globe winner was not winning any style awards last night in her Ulyana Sergeenko gown. The length was so confusing, no?

ROSAMUND PIKE – The Gone Girl actress is in amazing shape just 5 weeks after giving birth but her Vera Wang cutout gown missed the mark for us.

KATIE HOLMES – We loves the actresses hair and makeup last night but she looked like she was on her way to the prom in this mulberry colored Marchesa gown.

Our TOP 10 Favorite Golden Globe Looks 2004-2014

top 10 gg

We’re counting down the days until the 2015 Golden Globe Red Carpet so we couldn’t help but take a look back at some of our favorite looks from the last 10 years. Normally fans of bold colors, we were shocked when we noticed that our list is made up of mostly pretty pastels. They’re just too good to pass up!

Two of BattleShop’s most loved fashion icons, Reese Witherspoon and Charlize Theron, made this list twice.  Check out which other starlets made our TOP 10!

Charlize Theron smouldered in this navy John Galliano gown at the 2005 Golden Globes where she was a Best Supporting Actress nominee. We think her dark hair was the perfect finishing touch.

At the 2007 awards, Reese Witherspoon wowed in a short, canary yellow number by Oliver Theyskens for Nina Ricci. Her ruby Brian Atwood heels were an excellent and unexpected pop of color.

You all remember 2009 when Eva Mendes nailed it in this white, front drape Dior gown. Van Cleef & Arpels supplied her knockout turquoise necklace for the Red Carpet win.

2010 was Drew Barrymore’s year at the Globes. Not only did she take home a Best Actress award from Grey Gardens, but she hit all the best dressed lists in her sparkly Atelier Versace gown.

Talk about easy, breezy and beautiful! Emily Blunt was a scene to behold in 2011 in her pale pink Dolce & Gabbana ruched and ruffled chiffon gown.

Best Actress nominee Anne Hathaway shimmered in this sequin Armani Privé gown at the 2011 Golden Globes.

And she does it again. In 2012 Charlize Theron was exquisite in Dior. The Best Actress nominee was stunning in pale pink with her Givenchy heels and Cartier jewels.

Reese Witherspoon is in red for her second spot on our list from the 2012 Golden Globes. Her Zac Posen bustier gown, Fred Leighton jewels and Louboutin heels were mega glam.

This look from Jessica Alba is proof that you can have it all. Her coral Oscar de la Renta gown was phenomenal in 2013.

Nominated for her role in The Master, Amy Adams was the master of the red carpet in 2013 in this Marchesa tulle gown. Tiffany & Co. jewels made this one of our favorite looks ever.

She's All That

She’s All That – Cate the Great

Whether she’s royally nailing the role of Queen Elizabeth or bearing rings and speaking Elvish by way of J.R.R. Tolkien, don’t you worry, Cate Blanchett’s got it covered. The Australian actress who had been running a theater company in Sydney with her husband has been splitting her focus between the stage and motherhood (3 boys), leading to her selectivity when choosing roles. I guess when your big screen debut earns you a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination as Queen Elizabeth I, your standards are set relatively high.

Like most talented actresses Cate’s not chasing awards and was convinced her film career was over after her concentrated focus on the theater company. Live performances have brought her a depth of experience that film hadn’t previously given her. She has said of performing live, “The role is secondary. It’s about who you are being directed by and who the other actors are.” Her role as a fallen-from-grace socialite in Blue Jasmine and the accolades that have followed were completely unexpected.

Alexander McQueen 2:16

Cate is prepping to hit the stage again on March 2nd, this time as an Oscar nominee for her role in Blue Jasmine. The actress already took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress on January 12th in a gorgeous black lace gown by Armani Prive and a BAFTA award for Best Actress on February 16th in a short-sleeved Alexander McQueen gown. We think she could wear a paper sack to any event and still be one of the most stunning women in the room. Best of luck to you, Cate!
