This weekend celebs and civilians alike will gather for the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville. The Derby, considered “The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports”, could also be considered “The Most Exciting Event In People-Watching”. Southen Belles will adorn the infield and grandstand with flowery, embellished (sometimes wild), wide-brimmed hats, traditionally touted in the belief that they’ll bring good luck.
In addition to a luxurious lid, springtime styles and colors dominate the field and this year, Vineyard Vines has taken Derby style by the reins. Check out their ultra-preppy Kentucky Derby line for great inspiration if you’re headed out to a Derby party this weekend. If you’re not stepping out in your best Seersucker, you can still partake in Derby tradition by mixing up a batch of Mint Juleps and tuning in to watch the races.
Rose Print skirt – $125
Churchill Down Scene dress – $198
At the 2013 running of the Derby, celebs like Lauren Conrad (wearing a nude number from her Paper Crown line) and model Coco Rocha (in a Zac Posen suit) hit the red carpet. Stay tuned to see what sweet spring looks are shown off on Saturday and best of luck on the ponies!
