BattleShop Must-Reads: Indie Fashion Retailers (Part 1)

As we search for great fashion online, we came across these gems – indie online retailers that allow us to discover new trends, brands, and designers.  On this day of rest, let’s let our fingers do the walking right into these Indie Fashion Retailer sites:

If you’re an old soul (fashionably speaking) and haven’t been to Modcloth, you’re missing out.   Vintage is the name of the game here, with modern takes on everything from pin-up girl fashion to 50s-inspired dresses.   Modcloth is more than just a retailer – it’s a fashion community dedicated to making the old new again.

Topshop is a leader in cutting-edge fashion.  Part retailer, part “global platform for the scene’s brightest new stars,” Topshop is a leader in setting style trends, including a Personal Shopping service.   We love the variety of fashion here, from bohemian to skater style.

We found this Bandeau Skort Playsuit on Topshop, and can’t stop dreaming about it.

It’s not just because we love New York that we love Brooklyn Industries.   BI is artsy and industrial, with a keen eye to the design element of fashion.  Browsing the Brooklyn Industries site is a lesson in the graphic arts, with apparel and accessories that both are edgy and beautiful.

Bird brings its boutique feel to its website, with a minimalist design and an eclectic approach to fashion.  Another Brooklyn-born retailer, Bird is the word on the New York aesthetic, and one of our favorite destinations online for discovering new brands.

Speaking of discovery, if you don’t know about Shinola and it’s 34mm Birdy White Dial Watch, all we can say is:  you’re welcome.

American Apparel

American Apparel

In case you were misinformed, American Apparel is about so much more than T-Shirts and solid color cotton knitwear.  American Apparel offers modern updates on classic pieces and is very classically New York:  both effortless and intentional.   And American Apparel is sweatshop-free, which goes to show you that doing good can look amazing.

The High Heel Bobby Patent Lace-Up Shoe brings shoe savviness to new heights.

Need Supply

The name says it all:  Need Supply Co. supplies your style needs.   The site is equal parts high fashion magazine and Birchbox:  you scroll through beautiful imagery and continually learn about new things to covet.  With a sleek elegant look, Need Supply Co. feels like you’re being given an exclusive look into a fashion editor’s brain.

It’s almost pedicure weather, which means that these fierce Sol Sana Chelsea Heels are on our to-die-for wish list.
