Case of the Mondays – Chains of Love

Well, we have to agree with you there, Mr. Tyler. For a man in 1787, he had great intuition about handbags. Take a look at some gorgeous gold chain strap bags that we feel very bound to ourselves. While most of the time, the gold chain bag channels old school Chanel-egance, these days you’re finding more varied, fun and edgier styles. Enjoy!

BattleShop Must-Reads: Our Favorite Online Fashion Magazines

The world of publishing is rapidly changing with consumers trading in their paper for pixels.   Fashion magazines are no different, with established and indie brands alike heading to the digital world in droves.   So, on this Sunday, let’s sit back, relax, and curl up with a good…online magazine.   Here are our favorites:

1.   Net-a-Porter

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 3.24.40 PM

There are so many amazing things going on here that you don’t know where to look first.   Net-a-Porter is a worldly and comprehensive warehouse of information about fashion and beauty.   Trends, icons, shopping guides and celebrity profiles fill out Net-a-Porter’s incredible content.   We especially love the Style Rethink feature, which highlights a new, fresh approach to old favorites, fashion myths, or poorly understood trends.

A member of the Conde Nast family, Print focuses its diverse content around a single theme in each issue (for example, Issue 5’s focus on “the Street”).  With designer profiles, photo features, and interviews with industry thought leaders, is a balance of the art and science of fashion.   One of our favorite features is the Style Map, which covers fashion trends from Amsterdam to Australia.

3.  Fashionista

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 4.25.25 PM

We love ourselves some Fashionista.   This independent fashion news site has the tone of a blog with the authority of an Anna Wintour.   A full-service news source, Fashionista offers up-to-the-minute stories on fashion, beauty and shopping.  Here at BattleShop, we especially like their Shopping Sales feature, where readers can learn how to get the hottest styles at the best prices (keep that in mind, future BattleShoppers!).

4.  matchbook

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 4.49.55 PM

A self-described “Field Guide to a Charmed Life,” matchbook is a fairy tale of a magazine.  The design and the content are beautiful, and cover all of the features of a well-lived life – from decor to fashion to culture.   Being organizers and list-makers ourselves, we especially love the super helpful Checklists!

5.  Tangent

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 3.15.20 PM

Tangent looks at the bigger fashion picture with in-depth articles about larger trends (such as this issues “Fashion’s New Phase”).     Simply designed with eye-catching photos and graphics, Tangent is a smart and savvy voice on fashion.  We especially love the Lusts section, which is a curated collection of items to drool over.

6.  The Cut

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 5.19.32 PM

As a part of New York Magazine, The Cut came to the table with some serious street cred in the news business.  Part social commentary, part fashion brief, The Cut brings an approach to the fashion news party that’s both fun and informative.   Whether you’re looking for comfort, advice or inspiration, this is the magazine for you.   Are you a pop culture fanatic?  Then, like us, you’ll love the Love & War feature.

7. Never Underdressed

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 5.23.19 PM

British fashion news site, Never Underdressed, is never short on up-to-the-minute fashion moments and tips.  With content ranging from Fashion Shoot inside looks to current trends road-tested by staffers, Never Underdressed is a one-stop resource for fashion and and beauty news.  Need help choosing the right look for a specific occasion?   Try the Style Selector!  We absolutely love this feature and could spend all day spinning out the endless possibilities.

8.  WWD

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 5.36.39 PM

Fashion is big business, and no one knows its ins and outs better than WWD.  A bible on the business of fashion, WWD covers the spectrum from the latest on the Runway to retail trends to designer directories.   Interested in style and market trends?  WWD is the place for you.   Looking for something or someone specific?  Check out the WWDirectory!

9.  Flare

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 5.46.35 PM

Leading Toronto magazine Flare is a breath of fresh (Canadian) air in the fashion news world.   From high fashion to how-tos, Flare is a well-organized and comprehensive collection of all things beautiful.   From Weddings to Celebrities, Flare has you covered.  We’re definitely going to download their new app, FLARE Essentials – with it, you can watch video how-tos and step-by-step instructions on achieving iconic looks in makeup and hair.

10.  Rue

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 6.08.49 PM

Filled with tips about home decor, entertaining and fashion, Rue Magazine is “your pathway to stylish living.”  It makes sense that their main mission is the celebration of beauty, because the look of this magazine is stunning.   We have more than just a pretty face here, however;  Rue is filled with insights, information and resources for those seeking style inspiration.  We especially love the Snag Her Style feature, which epitomizes shoppable content.

11.  Teen Vogue

Screen Shot 2014-03-29 at 6.16.54 PM

Who said you can’t be a teenager and a fashionista?   Teen Vogue is the source for teen fashion.  Here, you’ll find everything under the sun from the Prom to the Red Carpet.   And we love the highly social nature of this site, which is probably why Reader Look of the Day is one of our favorite features.   You don’t need to be a Kardashian to be a fashionista – we all have a little style icon waiting to be free – Teen Vogue let’s you share it!

So, fellow fashionistas, power up those devices and get reading!   Don’t see your favorite site on this list?   Let us know!   The Must-Reads will be a regular feature here on the blog, and we’d love to have suggestions for future posts.

Best Trends Forever

Best Trends Forever – Anthro Knows Boho (Chic)

The Bohemian trend picked up speed in the mid 2000’s with actresses like Kate Hudson and Sienna Miller but it didn’t start there. Many Boho-Chic elements come from the 60’s, 70’s and some say even back as far as the early 1900’s which makes this style perfect for Throwback Thursday. Lucky for all of us, Anthropologie, one of our FREs (Favorite Retailer Ever), has delivering Boho pieces for years, and this season is packed with perfect picks. Here are just a few of our favorites.

Countdown to BattleShop – The Details

As we get closer to launch, we’re getting closer to revealing all of the details about BattleShop! For now, let’s just say that if you love shopping, or just love to window/fantasy shop, this will be the game for you. And the best part is, it’s free and you can win great prizes!

The Fashion Roster

Your Fashion Roster will be the equivalent of a lineup in fantasy sports. In fantasy sports, players are required to have certain numbers of players at each position. In BattleShop, all players will be required to have a certain number of various fashion items (like shoes, bags, pants, jackets, etc.)

share with friends

The Shopping Period

Once you click “Start A New Battle,” you’ll have one week to complete a Closet. During that week, you’ll search for items on our site (from virtually any online brand and retailer) and add pieces to your Closet that fulfill the required items and stay within your budget. When your Closet is complete, lock it to move on to the next phase of the game!

The BattleBudget

In the game, you’ll be fantasy shopping for required categories of clothing and accessories. How much can you (virtually) spend? 5,000 BattleBucks! (1 BattleBuck = $1 USD). You’ll need to be strategic, because when you’re fantasy shopping, the budget goes quickly!
